My child has been going here for some time now and absolutely loves it! When he first started the staff were really happy to hear that he liked to play Cowboys and Indians, I really enjoy knowing that they are encouraging him to pursue a good career in the future he has told me on different days that he wants to be a cop, a construction worker or just work with leather. After having a mini-career day at the setting I was overjoyed that he now wants to follow in his great-grandfathers footsteps and be "in the navy" when he is older, it must be the settings close location to the waterfront that has him thinking like this.

My son has a great time at the nursery. There is lots of space and a large garden. He has an excellent relationship with his key person. Staff are always quick to deal with any issues that arise. I can see he is well cared for and loved!

My son was attending to YMCA for couple of months and never seemed to be able to settle in, all tho he is an open, happy child. The stuff doesn’t seem to be bothered and I don’t feel like they are trained enough to take care of children. We where called multiple times to collect our son sometimes without a good reason. There was a situation where I was called to collect my son and had rude follow up calls, the person on the phone couldn’t understand that my husband got stuck in traffic that’s why it took a tiny bit longer. After taking our son home we discovered he’s completely fine, didn’t have a diarrhea at all, when asked what was the problem the stuff said he had one loose poo. We where excluded for 48 h despite there where no other symptoms. We where called couple of times because our son was crying and no one could calm him down, on one occasion like that when we where called because of crying (which for me is very alarming, as in my opinion they should be able to calm a crying child!) the stuff couldn’t calm him at all to the point where he got sick from all the crying. We where called to collect him and excluded for 48 hours because of vomiting, all tho on the phone they clearly said it’s happening because he’s crying and they can’t calm him down. Our son was always rushing to go home and always said we left him there for too long.. his development wasn’t as fast, he never came back home with any new songs learned or any new skills, but always very hungry.. We moved him to a different pre school and everything changes from the week one, he settled in straight away, he’s always happy to go there and doesn’t want to go home sometimes! He’s language skills, behaviour and other skills are so much better just after few weeks in the new place. He’s not as chaotic and much calmer. I wouldn’t recommend YMCA Woolston to anyone.. the most stressful experience!

Very disorganised pre school and learning. The staff are not good at integrating children, they seem to do as little as possible. My granddaughter changed from a very happy outgoing little girl, to a subdued shy young girl in the space of a few weeks. SHe had a minor health problem that I feel was discriminated against, and not taken seriously. The staff seem to call my son to collect my granddaughter for the smallest sniffle or cough to the point she was at home more than she was there. She is not a sickly child, there is a real air of "cant be bothered" in the playschool. A lot more training in caring for children and willingness to want to,is needed here. My granddaughter was moved 4 weeks ago and has settled beautifully into her new environment. The change in her has been astounding.
