About Us
There has been a bakery on the Tilleys site several decades. A lot of long standing Hythe residents will remember Wilkins the Bakers who were here from the late 60s until the company closed. Alan Richards, an ex-Wilkins baker, took the opportunity to buy the lease for their Hythe branch from Wilkins and opened Tilleys in 1988.
The name came from Alan's wife Heather, whose nickname is Tilley. The business was always a family affair, with six members of the family working there over the years. But after nearly 30 years Alan decided it was time to hang up his dough hook and the business was bought by Joanne and Wayne FitzGerald.
After a brief closure for a refit Tilleys was re-launched in May 2017 with a fresh new look.
Come in and see the new Tilleys and try our tasty range of bread, cakes, pies and pasties, as well as a range of fresh sandwiches and jacket potatoes for lunch.
