I googled ‘Dog friendly’ camping and thankfully Thorney Lakes camping came up- as it was absolutely lovely! We stayed with 2 large huskies, a 4 year old and a six year old boy a 5 man tent and a landrover.
The pitches are in a lovely flat traditional somerset cider orchard- which also provided entertainment for the kids – chucking apples! and shade for us and the dogs.
A short walk to gorgeous little fishing lakes, and woodland trails, lots of wildlife and quaint little villages with pubs, a pottery and Muchelney abbey for sightseeing.
There were other families with kids and dogs, but it wasn’t noisy or overcrowded. Perfect.

Nice quiet site, children made their own fun, not a tablet or phone in sight, nice lakes to walk around or fish in or even wine & sandwiches on a bench, excellent walks for dogs, definitely coming again soon.Sunday 14th August 2022
Phil Dowle5 StarJust had a great weekend at Thorney Lakes. This is our favourite campsite. No rules on arrival or departure times. No set pitches. Just go where you like. Facilities are always clean. Staff very friendly and welcoming. My grandson learned to ride his bike over the weekend and was given a medal and certificate out of the blue. He was so chuffed. What great customer service. Highly recommend Thorney Lakes to anyone who likes a quiet well run site.Monday 8th August 2022
