The Sycamore Tree is a family run café and B&B in Longtown, on the A7 Edinburgh Road north of Carlisle, home to the biggest sheep market in England and just four miles from Gretna Green. It’s open every day from 8am to 5pm (4pm Sundays) and has special Steak Nights on a Tuesday and Friday from 6pm until last orders at 8pm (Steak Nights postponed until further notice).

Chef patron John has been at the helm here for 14 years and the café menu offers a wide choice ranging from light bites to tasty home-made meals. There is also a special coeliac menu catering with a good selection of gluten-free dishes, including desserts.

Keep an eye out for the Daily Specials and if you’re planning a visit for their very popular Sunday Lunch, be sure to book in advance. The Sycamore Tree is fully licensed, has a take out service (no delivery) and can also accommodate private parties. There are two ensuite rooms for bed & breakfast stays – the King Room and the Queen Room.

We had just stopped for a break and found this little cafe by accident. Popped in for a sandwich to go. The sandwiches are very good especially the ham as the slices are so thick and on nice bread. When visiting again will stop and sit in. Also cyclist and motorcycle friendly to. Parking on street.

The room was outstanding! Call ahead on the off chance that they had a room available, nothing was too much trouble. Again the room was outstanding for the price, powerful shower, very comfortable bed, a well decorated room. The breakfast was of exceptional quality. I won’t hesitate to stay there again.

A very decent cafe. This is a really great cafe which is on the main road A7. The food is great, helpings are generous, hot where required and a good variety of choices. It is wheelchair friendly, has disabled facilities, good for families, individuals or couples. Well worth a try if you are in the vacinity.

I did not stay here, just popped in for a coffee and snack between the Lake district and home in Wooler. It was a real gem! Lovely coffee and jam & cream scone in very pleasant, bright coffee shop with homemade cakes and scones, served by lovely, friendly gentleman. A real treat and totally the opposite of motorway services!
