The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak is a destination food pub worth visiting in the southern Lake District near Grange-Over-Sands but very close to Cartmel, Morecambe Bay and the southern part of Lake Windermere. You will find great British food served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We have a great bar with cask ales, refreshing lagers, wines, spirits and soft drinks. We have a large car park and beer garden with tables to sit outside. We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 after over 70 years as our monarch. All of us will be thinking of the great service Her Majesty carried out on behalf of our country and the example she set to us all through selfless devotion to others. Our deepest thoughts and love go to her family as we now enter a period of mourning, the likes of which most of us will never have seen before. May she rest in peace. The village of Lindale is situated in the Lake District National Park and the Royal Oak has a long history of welcoming locals and travellers alike. The pub was first licensed in the mid-1800s and is situated at the top of Lindale Hill, hence being locally known as the ‘Top House’. The pub used to be where carriers’ horses could be changed on the way west to High Newton. The horses are now gone but the pub retains many of its historic features and has undergone a refurbishment that has been faithful to its heritage as a warm, welcoming, and cosy place to eat and drink. Only stopped in for a pint. They where clearly busy with lunch trade but we were still quickly and politely welcomed at the bar. Cask ale in great condition. Glassware presented with branding facing the customer. These guys know what they are doing. Keep up the good work!

Lovely little pub, fantastic relaxed atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle. Food was delicious we a starter and the bread with hummus and oils to share, came out really quickly and was all home made and presentation was great. Will definitely be returning on our next visit to Grange over sands!

Stopped in after a nice break in the lakes. A very good find. The food was excellent, I can heartily recommend the mushroom and tarragon soup and the black pudding bon bons were very special, the brown sauce served with them was incredible. The fish and chips with mushy peas was a good size and a light batter made it very moreish. Very good service as well, what's not to like.👍👍👍

Was staying at Grange over Sands with my wife in a lovely BandB in Windermere Road . After a search of local restaurants and public houses in the area came across the Royal Oak pub in Lindale and we decided to go there . Was a long arduous walk up the Windermere road to get there along the steep winding direct route but was well worth it. Even though we hadn't booked in advance for a meal the landlord was superb in helping us get a table and all the staff there were very friendly and welcoming. Our food was great and the selection of local beers excellent. Lovely friendly atmosphere in the pub with nice period style decor. Excellent pub and very highly recommended
