The Royal Oak inn has been here for over 400 years and we have a list of landlords dating back to 1760.

We have been here for almost 4 years and have already done lots to the pub without taking away the charisma and so still boasts lots of character & charm…

So if you haven’t already visited us, Don’t take our word for it, come see for yourself and you won’t be disappointed. If you have already visited us, you already know nothing is too much trouble and we will do our absolute best to accommodate you.

We feel it’s the small things that matter!

We ate here last week, and the meal was so disappointing that I feel obliged to leave a review. Firstly, the setting is great, and the pub itself is lovely. The service too was very good, quick, friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the food was very poor. I chose the chicken, ham and leek pie, one of my favourite dishes. However, the pie that was served up bore very little ressemblance to any chicken ham and leek pie I have ever eaten or seen. Among the white sauce and flaked carrots (carrots! in a chicken ham and leek pie!!), I found one small piece of chicken, a few lumps of what I think was some sort of ham, and the merest shards of something green, which I assume was leek. To be fair, the white sauce, which made up most of the pie, was OK, and made a nice dipping sauce for the flabby chips which accompanied the meal, along with some soggy and cold greenery. However, if you are paying £14.95 for a chicken ham and leek pie, you would expect these three ingredients to make up the majority of the filling. I expressed my disappointment to the bar staff, who said they would pass on my comments to the kitchen, but I heard nothing from them, which has led me to leave this review. Very very disappointing

Wonderful pub serving exceptional food for the price. We ate here on a Monday afternoon and it soon turned very busy, but they still delivered a great service. Would absolutely return here just for the amazing pie meals. Keep up the great work!

Best ham baguette I've ever had. They make the ham fresh in-house every day and it is really really good. Lovely place, we stopped by chance, but will definitely visit again if we come back to Thor's cave.

Just stayed at this pub this weekend. Had fish and chips, chicken and ham pie, steak and pasta meals which were all excellent. Had a cooked breakfast which was also excellent. Real ale was spot on. Thanks.

Great location and plenty of space, mainly outdoors. The beer was good but not much choice. Two beers on hand pump and one was IPA and one bitter. Both from the same brewery. The food was pretty mediocre and not cheap.
