The Mardens

Set up in 1963 the business has evolved, purely through word of mouth recommendations, into one of Caterham’s best kept secrets. The Mardens has its facilities around a village square with the cats having their own specially designed building known as “The Cat’s Whisker”, whilst the dogs are accommodated within a number of cottages, for instance “Hobnob Cottages”, which face onto the village square. Large grass paddocks are utilised to allow the dogs running exercise as well as walks through meadows and woods which are part of the property. Evening turnouts.

OMG Where do I start …. Well firstly there were vacancies last minute, which is a positive I spose but that should have told me everything I needed to know! We arrived to what looked like a sweet little set up - the area has been made to look like a small village … it was quite kookie. The man came out, and although I shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, it was difficult not to. I’ll move swiftly on to the kennel accommodation. I actually found it difficult to believe - it stank. There was a dirty old rug covering a built up pallet made into some kind of rickety old dog bed. It looked and smelt minging. The actual kennel was about 1.5m square. Without being rude and derogatory I cannot say anymore other than I really wouldn’t leave my pet here.
