Weclome tothe King George V

The pub in a 1690 building is now open again after a long closure and a massive refit.

It features real ale, keg beers, lager and stouts along with a big selection of Belgian beers, great food and four en-suite letting rooms.

John and Diane are back again after a break of a few years.

The pub basically looks like it always did. But everything has been upgraded, re-painted, re-upholstered, re-carpeted and given a totally fresh appearance.

However, it retains all the historic features which make it unique.

Very friendly Old World style corner Pub, relatively small, live music and sometimes street dancing, on my visit the Bishops Gundulf Morris dancers and musicians were visiting,so an extra enjoyable evening. Definitely will visit again. Easy to find with free parking in the evening.

Popped in here for Sunday lunch with the family after a wedding at the nearby barracks the night before. Well what a great decision that was. Lovely pub, great selection on tap and one of the best sunday roasts that we have ever had in a pub. Excellent, truly excellent.

After popping to some other local places we noticed, upon our walk back, that the George V had some music - the place looked interesting so we ventured in. Glad we did! This is the sort of pub that you sort of know exists but don't come across often. Plenty of naval and historical things to look at on the walls / ceilings, some live music playing and a good selection of drinks. Feels like a 'proper' pub. We visited late on a Sunday which is a shame as they have a free cheese and biscuit selection which we missed out on! There is not loads of space inside but the pub feels warm, nice people and fairly chilled.

A fine and unexpected retreat that offers an old world atmosphere and a melancholic feeling of all the homely pubs you've had the good fortune to visit. Impeccable selection of drinks served by the pub manager Adam whom is the reason for which I return very regularly! His conversational acumen, professional welcoming approach, and clear robust experience is rare to the point of seldom crossed. Could not recommended enough!

This pub has really turned a recent corner since Leon the Spooky Bar- Weasel Manager went missing in legal action. Good beer, snacks and food. Warm and nice surroundings. Community feel to it as well. Excellent.
