Welcome to the website for the Highwayman

Sitting in Lancashire but only a few miles from the Cumbrian and Yorkshire borders, the Highwayman started life as an 18th - century coaching inn, in the perfect position to offer comfort and respite to those on their travels. Thankfully it retains much of its original charm.

On entering you're welcomed by the bar which forms the heart of the pub. A mix of flagged stone and wood floors, rugs, plants and two open fires make for a cosy, comfortable spot to enjoy a drink with friends (or strangers) and a bite to eat if you fancy.

Carrying on through and the pub opens up; just a little, into a garden room with picture lined walls and doors opening out onto the walled terrace, the perfect place to enjoy on more pleasant days.

Back in the pub and you'll also find a private dining room. It's a lovely room with a homely feel created by the wall of books, plants and nic nacs. It comfortably seats up to 16 people for a private family meal or a business lunch, or, with a bit of furniture rejigging it would also suit perfectly a small gathering of up to 30 or so.

Only stopped for a coffee on way to bike ride, wish we'd gone back for lunch. Lovely pub both inside and out, great coffee, friendly staff. Loads of outdoor seating, in two separate places that I saw though could be more. Will definitely visit again if we're ever in the area.

You can't go wrong here. Lovely food and cooked as requested, we had steak and very good. A nice touch having water on the table if required but a pity was not ice water so was not cold enough. Table booked on line and very easy. Tables well spaced and NO loud music blasting out, better for people with hearing aids. Found all the staff very helpful and pleasant. Only one thing against and that's the price,a little expensive but worth it. Will definitely visit again. We went on the 21/4/22 midweek Thanks to all the staff Pete

The pub is a beautiful place to have food as you can see by my pictures. The staff are lovely thoughtful and very professional. Ive driven past this place many times and thought I'd like to eat in there which I did today. Im so glad I did the starter crispy duck was amazing as was all the food we ordered. Please eat here you will NOT be disappointed. GREAT PLACE.

We called here for Sunday lunch yesterday. A fantastic coaching inn that's been thoughtfully renovated. The Sunday roast beef dinner was excellent quality, the topside particularly, and with a couple of extra sides of vegetables enough to fulfil a couple of good appetites in one course. Hopefully next time we will have more time to sample more courses as there were some excellent options. The exemplary staff made this a five star experience.

Booked a table for 4 and arrived a little early and we were offered a seat in the bar until it was ready - extensive drinks menu and knowledgable bar staff! Invited to our table exactly on time in a lovely quiet area of the restaurant where we were looked after by a very helpful and attentive young lady. The food was excellent and could not be faulted! The staff were a credit to this beautiful restaurant and can’t wait to visit again!
