This week Ruby class celebrated the end of their topic on Minibeasts! The classroom was taken over by lots of different minibeasts such as caterpillars, butterflies, ladybirds, beetles and even a snail! The children looked wonderful in their costumes and we had a fantastic day thinking about all the different facts we have learnt over the last half term. It was also a very special day because our four butterflies had emerged from their chrysalides, which meant we were able to let them go outside. The children have enjoyed observing the changes that have taken place over the last few weeks, starting with the very small caterpillars that grew bigger and bigger, before making their chrysalides and then turning into a butterfly. Ruby class have really enjoyed learning about lots of different minibeasts and now know lots of facts about different creatures. If you want to find out more about caterpillars, butterflies, snails or spiders come and ask us!  ... This week Ruby class celebrated the end of their topic on Minibeasts! On Monday the children in our Pre – School took part in a Dazzle Walk to help support a wonderful charity close to our hearts. The Ehlers-Danlos Support UK is a charity that helps to support, advise and inform those living with the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes. The children came to Pre – School dressed in an outfit to dazzle us. They wore stripes, sparkles, their favourite colour or something that made them feel extra special ready to shine and walk! They did incredibly well and walked around the keystage one playground cheered on by the children in Ruby class at school. The children have managed to raise an impressive £40 so far for the charity and we are very proud of all them! Well done to everyone!... Throughout the day, the children worked incredibly hard to create some amazing sculptures, which will be paraded through the town. They look amazing, wouldn’t you agree!... Wednesday morning started early with a lot of bleary eyed faces in Yukon Lodge, the teachers included! Once packed we headed off to breakfast where a choice of cereals, toast and a hot breakfast were on offer. This was quickly devoured and we headed off to our first activities of the day (Raft building, High ropes and Abseiling/Zip Line). Any tired faces quickly disappeared and were replaced with excitement and laughter. Many of the children overcame their fear of heights and completed multiple abseils and climbed to the tallest obstacle on the high ropes (more than 10 metres high)! Afterwards all groups joined together on the field for some team building games. It’s safe to say that the children worked up an appetite and were soon asking what time lunch was. We settled down on the field, under a clear blue sky and warming sun and talked about our favourite activities. The instructors also handed out some awards to children who they thought demonstrated particularly high levels of determination, communication and teamwork skills. It wasn’t long until lunch was over and the coach was calling us home. We quickly piled on, waved goodbye to our fantastic instructors and headed back south to home. The Year 4 team hope that all the children thoroughly enjoyed their experience at the Pioneer Centre and have taken away some important skills and powerful memories. Well done to everyone for pushing themselves beyond their comfort zone and giving every activity a try!... When we arrived we were welcomed by the fantastic staff who showed us to our lodge. Each group was given a tour of the facilities and shown the different activities which they would be completing. We were soon split into our groups and were heading towards our first session (Archery, Raft building, High ropes & Climbing). All the children performed brilliantly and were full of energy and demonstrated teamwork and problem solving skills. This was then followed by another activity before heading off for our tea. In the evening, we gathered around the crackling fire and sang campfire songs which we’re sure you’ll hear upon our return. A number of children and Mr Stanton even took part in the good old pioneer tradition of Speed banana eating! After showers, we settled down to a drink and biscuit before making our way to bed after an exhausting first day.  ... Today Year 4 set off on our eagerly awaited residential to the Pioneer Centre. On Friday, to celebrate the completion their SATS assessments, Year 6 enjoyed a day filled with fun activities. The sun was shining and the children were encouraged to relax and spend their time outdoors as the music played! The children took the opportunity to play rounders and football; teach each other new dance routines and play the game ‘Smash the Moustache!’ In the afternoon, the children also enjoyed a picnic on the field. We would like to say a HUGE well done to Year 6. You have worked incredibly hard this week and we are so proud of your attitude and focus during your tests.      ... Last Friday, Year 4 was hurled back in time all the way to the Anglo-Saxon age! When they arrived, the children were greeted by King Harold Godwinson, Duke William of Normandy and Lady Guinevere who took them through a number of different Anglo-Saxon activities. In the morning, the children took part in Brooch making, Rune designing and creating Anglo-Saxon Celtic knots. They also sampled daily Anglo-Saxon life through attempting to start fires, make shelters and sample the delicious staple of the Anglo-Saxon diet, pottage. Full from their hearty meal the mighty warriors assembled into their opposing factions: Anglo-Saxons and Normans. The Anglo-Saxons were already exhausted before the battle having just won a heroic fight at Stamford bridge and then running the length of England to defend their Kingdom from yet another invader. The Normans were eager to disembark their ships and do battle with the English. The opposing forces organised their battle lines near Hasting, before clashing together ferociously. Many did not live to see the end of the day! The final moments saw William Duke of Normandy do battle with King Harold and claim the crown of England! The Anglo-Saxon age was over. The age of the Normans is about to begin!... Last Friday, Year 4 was hurled back in time all the way to the Anglo-Saxon age! They played so well throughout the tournament and finished with 4 wins, 1 draw and just got pipped 1-0 in the final. They really did the school proud, not just with the result but also with their effort and their all round attitudes.... Last Friday, Pearl class enjoyed a variety of activities, encouraging them to read. The day began with a quick tutorial from Rob Biddulph (former World Book Day official illustrator). The children learnt how to draw a cartoon-style bookmark. Look at some of their bookmarks below! Then, they went into the Reading Den where they enjoyed snuggling in between duvets and blankets and listening to both Miss Davis & Mrs Tonkin read our Class Reader book ‘Goodnight Mister Tom.’ They also loved the watching the starry night sky in the den whilst drinking our hot chocolates! Next up was the Reading Cafe. As our classroom has an extensive reading book corner, the children enjoyed exploring the different genres it has to offer. They spent some time devouring books (and biscuits). After this, the class went on a Book Scavenger Hunt where they were given a list of items they needed to find on book covers…. we had such a fun time! Finally, they spent the afternoon designing artwork based around the genre of Mystery for the school library’s competition.                                     ...
