Suffolk Academy

The Suffolk Academy (formerly the Academy Health and Fitness Centre) sits in 10 acres of sports field on the outskirts of the village of Barrow, just 8 miles from Bury St Edmunds and within easy driving distance of Cambridge, Newmarket and Ipswich. Since 2008, The Suffolk Academy has been serving the community of Barrow, and beyond. Founded by Glen Moulds, the Academy began as a way to train elite athletes from the England Karate squad. Over many years the site has constantly grown and developed to meet the community’s needs. In addition to Karate, the Academy now hosts a recently expanded and renovated Life Fitness gym (open 5am to 11pm 365 days a year), archery range, camping pitches and festivals. New to 2016 is The Playground, an assault course, boot camp, and obstacle course racing circuit adjacent to Suffolk Many of our events bring people from all around the world to Barrow, such as the Homegrown Music Festival which brings thousands of music loving fans to the grounds every summer for a super weekend of live music and partying that supports East Anglian musicians, artists, and vendors. The Great Barrow Challenge sees even more people travelling here from all over the world to participate in our elite marathon and ultra marathon events through the year. Many of our events bring people from all around the world to Barrow, such as the Homegrown Music Festival which brings thousands of music loving fans to the grounds every summer for a super weekend of live music and partying that supports East Anglian musicians, artists, and vendors. The Great Barrow Challenge sees even more people travelling here from all over the world to participate in our elite marathon and ultra marathon events through the year. 2022 will see our 8th 10 marathons in 10 days One of the original UK events of this type, we started life as The Great Barrow Challenge and retain this name for our 10 day summer event.   We are located in Barrow, Suffolk and this is most definitely a challenge! We use a variety of routes throughout the event.  Some single loops others are multi lap.  All start and finish in the same place and take you through the lovely Suffolk countryside.

Great site in a wonderful location, 20 mins from Cambridge and 5 mins from Bury St Edmunds. Amazingly there is a Gym and an Archery Range as we as an proper assault course thing next door. The management are really cool and the local village has all the things you might need while taking a break. Cant fault the Suffolk Academy, added it to the list of places I will visit regularly.
