About Us

Started in late 1969 in the name of Stone & District Playgroup with about 10 children. It had always been situated in Stone Village Hall.

Over the years, it has seen many changes and gone from strength to strength and in 1995 its name was changed to Stone & District Pre School

In September 2001, the Pre-school was taken over privately by Mrs Lyn Meads and Mrs Janet Brooks.

We registered for nursery vouchers in 1997 and we welcomed four year olds onto vouchers. Three year old funding became available in April 2000.

In April 2003, the Pre-school changed its name to Stone & Fairford Leys Pre School.

In June 2003 we opened our second Pre-school on Fairford Leys.

In March 2014 we made our most exciting and biggest commitment to date with the decision to lease our own child care premises in Stone. This meant that in June 2014 we moved our setting from Stone Village Hall to our current setting, Maple House, 74 Oxford Road, a provision that provides a much more child friendly learning environment for our pre-school children. It also provided us with the opportunity to expand our business to include a breakfast/ after school club and a holiday club.

We opened our breakfast and after-school club in September 2014 for children from reception age to school year 6.

We have passed 8 Ofsted inspections, with excellent reports.

The most recent one’s being Stone September 2016 for which we received an overall ‘Good’ Fairford Leys November 2015 for which the group received an overall “Good” Copies of Stone’s report is available on request

In March 2016 we had to make the unfortunate decision to close our Fairford Leys setting at the end of the summer term (July 2016). This decision was forced upon us by the opening of a pre school within St Marys school on Fairford Leys, this was then followed by the resignation of 5 trained staff, which included the manager and deputy supervisor.

Fortunately we were able to offer places at our Stone setting to all those children that were due to return to Fairford Leys in September 2016
