ABOUT US
We are a quilting shop and classroom rooted in our local community, with the idea that we should be here for everyone, whether they are a professional or have never picked up a needle before.
Julia started Step by Step in 1999 with her business partner, Anne, after a career in adult education, realising that her home craft classes deserved a wider audience. When Anne retired, Step by Step relocated to their present premises.
After studying at university, Julia’s daughter Emily joined the team and now runs the shop/haberdashery. She also runs some of our workshops and classes and is always on hand to help out with craft and fabric-related queries.
The team has been made complete with the addition of Molly, the border terrier. An active if erratic member of staff, you can find her interacting with the customers or, sometimes, with her head stuck under the cutting table, playing with one of her balls.

E Robinson5 StarAn absolute gem Aladdin's cave of a shop with fantastic helpful friendly owners for whom nothing is too much trouble. The go to place for your festive and seasonal sewing. Beautiful fabrics and plenty of advice to help you complete any project, all year round. I cannot recommend this shop and the very hard working Julia, Emily, et al highly enough, ably abetted by Molly the cute border terrier! Check out their online shop.Saturday 18th September 2021
Maggie Seward1 StarI visited this shop yesterday on my way through North Devon, pleased to think I could support a local, family run business. As a novice quilter I was looking for some friendly help and advice. Unfortunately this was not on offer, only brusque indifference. The assistant had a real attitude problem. On reflection I wish I'd walked out and shopped online. Not recommended. Certainly I will not be returning.Saturday 26th October 2019

Janice Fender5 Staran excellent range of patchwork materials and sewing supplies run by friendly and knowledgeable owners.Have taken a number of patchwork classes here and they are brilliant,If your new to it or more experienced this is the place to go .
an excellent well stocked store run by friendly and knowledgeable owners.They also run workshops that i have attended and rate highly.it doesn't matter if your new to patchwork and sewing crafts or have more experience this shop is a must.Wednesday 6th July 2016
