Every now and again, if you are lucky, you discover a place which ticks so many personal boxes you run out of superlatives. For me, Sidmouth falls into that category. Fabulous seafront, brilliant beaches, wonderful walks, superlative scenery, high-quality hotels and B&Bs for those who wish to stay and explore a little longer, eateries to suit most tastes, some tremendous tearooms and cafes, eclectic range of shops and magnificent public gardens. The whole place oozes class and is well maintained. Remarkably little evidence of mindless vandalism and graffiti results in a town in which the visitor can feel safe, especially for that evening walk to work off the calories which may have come with a main meal followed by a dessert which resulted in a failed willpower test! Sidmouth also boasts one of the best local cricket grounds I've ever seen. I really could write forever about this town. Over the top? I don't think so, however I am biased. I 'discovered' Sidmouth 30 years ago and every time I visit it's like meeting a favourite friend. Car parking is excellent, although the ones in the centre can fill very quickly. There is a much bigger one to be found (clearly signposted) off a right turn part way up a slight hill after leaving the west end of the seafront. You can pay on an app. Sidmouth is a rare unspoilt gem. I don't think you will be disappointed.
