Dorchester is the ancient County Town of Dorset, and sits about 7 miles inland from Weymouth and the Portland peninsular. The Romans built a fort here on the site of a pre-historic fort before them. The town is now a thriving area with a prosperous shopping street, a new day and night venue being built on the site of the old brewery, and another shopping centre planned for the end of this decade. There is a weekly market on Wednesdays and a Farmer's Market once a month.
