The real origins of The Plough are somewhat lost in time, probably in several pints of beer, but nowadays in Mountnessing Essex, we are a bastion of good eating, drinking, locally and informally.

Pub really nice with a good ambience. All very clean and modern.
Staff did a really good job in making it a special evening; polite and attentive.

John Sinclair3 StarReally nice food, I had the steak burger and wife had fish and chips. The haddock was fantastic, proper size, burger was great. Kids had burgers and chips. A couple of criticisms though, my kids are very young so there's no need for the chef to put loads of salt on the chips. There is an area that I had assumed was a play area for kids as it had toys, paper and pens so of course my kids seen this, I thought it would be good entertainment for them but was thrown out by the staff as it was private and only for the owners children. However I wouldn't visit with children, the staff were attentive to all but us. We had to call someone over everytime we needed something (cutlery, sauces, drinks) they didn't check on us at all or ask if everything was ok. We were the only table with children and they seemed to avoid us because of it.Saturday 24th September 2022
