Patisserie Valerie all started with Theophile Vermeirsch (Theo) who was born in Antwerp in 1898. He first came to London with his family as refugees from Belgium in the First World War. During this time, he worked as a pastry chef.

The family returned to Belgium some time in 1918 and in 1922 he married Esther Van Gyseghem, born in 1900 in Oostende. Together they returned to London and opened a Belgian patisserie in 1926 on the corner of Dean Street and Old Compton Street in London’s Soho and called it "Patisserie Valerie”.

Whist out shopping, we popped in for a coffee and a cake. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, it felt like visiting friends. The cakes we ordered were divine. Will be our go to place when shopping from now on.

Popped in on a lunch break whilst working in Exeter city. Was served by a young lady called Sophie, fantastic service. Delicious food with plenty of choice. Fresh flowers on every table were a lovely touch.

Asked for a red velvet cake, staff member did warn me that the red velvet cake and a few others are very dry but I bought it anyway as it looked delicious. Can confirm the cake was ridiculously stale, literally cardboard. Shame because they’re not cheap & look amazing. Very disappointed won’t be buying again.

Visited today. As soon as walked in we were acknowledge and led to a table right next to the only other person in the place!!! Why do people do that?! I asked for the sofa kind of seats which we were given. They are very battered chairs but were comfy! The cafe has no life or soul to it, very dreary! I ordered a tea and an almond croissant. The tea was very weak looking but did actually have a bit of flavour but the croissant was dry, had a weird after taste and a tiny bit of Almond paste! Tescos have better ones and that’s saying something!!! I did eat it as needed some sugar but I will not be returning as it really was an expensive and quite horrible experience.
