John Smith2 StarWent to view a van yesterday on the forecourt having travelled a 6 hour round trip in total to see the van. Before i left i made it clear to the owner that if there was anything wrong with the vehicle to make it clear as i was coming from a long way, all was fine apparently.
Upon arrival the vehicle was in great condition aesthetically and was generally a really nice example of a van of this age. Having jumped in it to take it for a test drive I put my foot on the clutch and it sank to the floor like a knife into warm butter. Quite clearly the clutch had no more than a few hundred miles left in it.
Having consulted the owner about the vehicle I was told by him that he wasn't aware of this what so ever. Unfortunately from the way he went about this conversation it was very clear he did. I was told by the owner that he had been in the vehicle sales industry for 35 years and driven the vehicle himself 50 miles, seems like a long time for someone that cant recognise a knackered clutch over a 50 mile trip?
Despite this I asked for £500 off the vehicle as id come such a long way that I thought id at least try and make it worthwhile and get it fixed. I was then told that If i didn't buy it today he was actually going to put the price up tomorrow? Seems like an odd thing to do to a vehicle thats likely going to need a £750 clutch repair job.
I really do not enjoy writing these reviews as its a waste of my time however, having made a 6 hour journey at the cost of £75, to just be sent straight back again I am understandably annoyed and feel that people like this need to change their ways. Why try it on with me like that? A day of my life wasted which could easily of been avoided, if you plan to put the price up from £4000, why not repair the clutch and sell it for £4500-£4750 and do it the respectable way, not try and flog a vehicle to someone who cant spot the faults and then they land up with a knackered clutch and a £750 bill in a few weeks time.Saturday 20th February 2021
