Single-use solutions
To combat the pervasive issue of single-use plastics, we have implemented effective solutions. Our establishment solely employs biodegradable or recyclable straws, takeaway cutlery, and packaging. In both our dine-in and takeaway services, we exclusively serve beverages in glass bottles. Collaborating closely with our suppliers, we actively minimise the utilisation of single-use plastics. Moreover, our dedication to recycling extends throughout our premises, encompassing glass, paper, and various plastics. We are proud to work with Grundon, our recycling company, which is transitioning to electric vehicles powered by the waste products they collect.
Carbon conscious
Recognising the significance of reducing our carbon footprint, Malt and Anchor has implemented various measures. By efficiently bulk ordering dry goods from our suppliers, we curtail wasteful trips and promote resource conservation. Whenever possible, we prioritise sourcing from local producers situated within a 40-mile radius. This allows us to support regional businesses such as Jesse Smith's Butchers for sausages and meats, Bibury Trout Farm for trout, Poulton Hill Vineyard for English wines, Plenty Pies in Nailsworth and Pieminister in Bristol for pies, Blackfords Cotswold for limoncello, and Bespoke Brewery and Cotswold Lake Brew Co for craft beers. Naturally, our fresh fish comes from Newwave Seafoods in Fairford.
To further reduce our environmental impact, we have invested in a state-of-the-art frying range from Florigo. These highly efficient ranges consume up to 50% less energy than traditional fryers, significantly diminishing our carbon footprint. Additionally, the range's advanced filtration system extends the lifespan of our cooking oil, resulting in both improved food quality and reduced environmental consequences.
Committed to community
Our commitment extends beyond culinary endeavours; we are deeply dedicated to supporting our community. With a profound appreciation for the importance of clean water sources, we initiated an environmental campaign in 2018. Through the concerted efforts of our devoted team of volunteers and staff, we embarked on a mission to cleanse nearby rivers and lakes from pollution, one discarded item at a time. To foster sustainable practises and environmental consciousness, our restaurant team actively engages with the local community. We organise regular clean-up drives and run awareness campaigns in collaboration with schools, local businesses, and sports teams. Together, we strive to cultivate a shared sense of responsibility towards safeguarding the future of our seas.
As proud sponsors of the Royal Agricultural University Rugby Team and Bibury AFC, we support local sports and community engagement. In line with our values, we have chosen The Fishermen's Mission as our designated charity. This organisation provides vital support to working fishermen and their families. To contribute to their mission, we organise fundraising initiatives such as donating 10p per bottle sold of our pilsner lager, Bowline. By actively participating in these endeavours, we aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who depend on our seas.
