We’ve just had our second stay at Kingsmead after discovering the site in 2022. Both times staying in a woodland pitch with hookup. Lovely location with the lakes and you feel tucked away amongst the trees. Facilities are good and kept very clean. Just a very well run site and would recommend.

We stayed on a woodland pitch called daisy, Great pitch for a peaceful camping experience. It's on woodchip ground so a bit bumpy but all good. we also had electric hookup possibilities, a fire pit with one free bag of logs and a picnic table on our pitch. Look forward to returning next year

We booked the Daisy pitch which was lovely. It was like our own private wooded area within the campsite. Perfectly shaded for our dog, especially with the heat. Very quiet area, loved all the nature and waking up to the birds singing. However on Sunday night there was a lot of loud music which was very base heavy. Not sure what it was but it went on late. Facilities were OK. I was really impressed with their shop and the fact it had lacto free milk. I struggle to find restaurants that cater for that so very impressed. Staff are very friendly, as is Pickles the dog :) For the majority of our stay we only had the option to use one shower block, which consisted of two toilets and two showers. One of the electric showers was awful, pressure was horrendous and it kept going scolding to freezing, so this was unpleasant and meant you’d be waiting a long time for the one working shower. The other block for some reason was locked and I get they weren’t absolutely packed but one shower and two toilets between maybe 15 of us is not great. The facilities weren’t immaculately clean but not disastrous either. We tried the walks as suggested on the welcome leaflet however found that within about 10 mins, the very clear public footpath had been electric fenced off with sheep occupying it. Due to this we used our car more than we wanted to in order to get some decent walks in. Location isn’t far from Culmstock Bescon which offers gorgeous views or the Wellington monument.

This is our little bit of heaven that we found 10 years ago . Beautiful scenery, peaceful and affordable. Lovely owners. Half an hour away from the coast .

Website makes site seem large and impersonal but it’s the opposite - woodland secluded, little nooks and crannies to pitch in, an on-site shop open til 8pm (no alcohol for sale), huge shower wetrooms and lovely clean facility blocks, grass, EHU, static homes, hard standing, yurts or if you’re a tent only you can pitch right inside the wood away from everyone. It is a little slopey in some areas but only barely. Not overcrowded at all, and if you’re awake early enough you’ll hear foxes, owls, birdsong... Fishing pond in the woods to be aware of if you have kids. No midges or flies which is a bonus, probably because raised fire pits allowed so there’s always atmospheric evening woodsmoke billowing gently through the trees. No music allowed so a quiet tranquil retreat. Short circular walk around the wooded site ideal for little kids too. Campervans, motorhomes, tents, yurts, static home
