COVID-19 UPDATE In response to the recent outbreak of Covid-19, our home has put in place the necessary measures in order to protect our residents and our staff. We are following government guidelines closely and we have decided to only allow essential visitors into our home until further notice. As a contingency, we have set up Skype in our home so that families and friends are still able to see their loved-ones via secure video-call, for more information on this and general queries please contact the home. We are currently still taking on new admissions to help the more vunerable eldery who may have to be isolated alone, even on a short-term basis, whilst ensuring this is conducted in a safe manner to keep everyone safe (Please note this could vary in accordance with daily government updates). For more information on the on Covid-19 please visit the government website on https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus and to find out more on how we are perparing ourselves please contact the home on 01843 602720 or email [email protected] In response to the recent outbreak of Covid-19, our home has put in place the necessary measures in order to protect our residents and our staff. Shelley, Jenny and all the staff of Kent House took good care of dad since transferring to them from hospital. Dad had spent 6 weeks in QEQM and the  Canterbury hospitals and we had had very little contact with him during this time due to not being allowed to visit him and also because he was unable to use his mobile phone himself due to dementia. When we called the hospitals some of the staff had not been interested with helping dad use his phone and we were becoming worried and frustrated at how little we were able to speak to him. As soon as he arrived at Kent House, Shelley the manager called us to say he was there and reassured us that mum could visit him and that we could call him anytime and they would answer dad's phone for him so we could video call him. Shelley had called us as soon as dad arrived at Kent House because we had not been told by the hospital that they were even transferring him that day. Dad was being transferred to Kent House on a six week NHS placement bed but unfortunately the hospital had told my dad that he was "going home" that day and he was confused and angry when he arrived at Kent House but Shelley had spent his first hour there talking to Dad until he was settled and calm. We are so grateful to Shelley and the other staff for this as we know how devastating it would have been for dad to think he was coming home to us and then being taken to a care home. We were able to visit dad the very next morning and from then on we could visit him and call him twice each day with their help. Shelley, Jenny and all the staff kept him safe and looked after while he was with them and did their best for dad over the next 5 weeks with encouraging him to get mobile by sitting in the conservatory and being patient with helping him to get  stronger with his eating. When we were visiting dad one afternoon I accidentally pressed the alarm and three staff members were at dad's room within a few seconds. When dad took a turn for the worse one morning the staff responded quickly and called an ambulance. The paramedics who attended dad that day again failed to follow through with getting the help for dad that he needed and Shelley gave up her day off by spending all day calling different NHS services to get dad that help which finally arrived late evening. My sister and I were particularly grateful to both Audrey and Becky for their support and kindness before dad left us and will always be grateful to them. Our family are very happy with Kent House and the care they provided for Dad.
