Went and ordered a hot beef sandwich, tried to pay with my phone and was told that they had a minimum of £5 for card payments. I told him that this is illegal and he started screaming and shouting, saying I’d been in before wasting his time (I haven’t) and that he could do as he liked in his shop. I asked if he wanted to sell me the sandwich or not and he continued to shout and swear at me so I left and won’t be going back

I was going to see the owner before leaving a review but after looking at other reviews i think it’s best to mention my experience. It was my first time to try this butchers today and the yummy looking mint lamb wheels drew me in, the young man who served me was friendly and polite but sadly it may well be my last visit! I was very disappointed to get home and find the meat I had bought was beginning to grow mould and stank awful 😣 not what you want after a long day at work and your ready for dinner! I’d like to think this could be a one off but for the meat to be furry should not go unnoticed in an environment such as a butchers, where freshness should be a must! Then not to mention that the size difference in fillings is very obvious and not good value. Such a shame as I may have become a regular customer.

Hygiene in here is a joke, I had a hot bacon and sausage cob, which was foul, I also brought some raw meat. Between handling cooked and raw all the man did was wipe his hand on a dirty rag, then handled my money, not once did he wash his hands Someone will get seriously ill from these practices

Nice and clean. Reasonable range of products but not really a full butchers. Only stocks the common cuts by all appearances. And service is dreadful. Though there always seems to be a host of butchers about, they are curiously averse to selling stuff. My latest visit I went in for 2kg lamb ribs. The man behind the counter looked at me, went into the back shouting that someone wanted serving. After 5 minutes another chap emerged and started serving a gentleman who had literally just walked into the shop where I had been standing alone and unattended. Knowing how slow service frequently is, I popped to the post office while the queue jumper agonised over which lamb cutlet to buy. 10 minutes later he was still deciding. So I gave up and walked to Darley Dale. Life is too short to be so ignored

Offer was buy 2 pounds of bacon and get 1 free. The 2 pounds (paid for) was overweight (of course) and the "free" pound was under weight - of course. I also asked specifically for 8 sausages but (as I found out later at home) there were 9 - again, of course. In addition I was not impressed by the person's attitude. Last time I shop here. The butcher on Smedley Street is far superior in all respects. Looking at the last hygiene rating for this establishment, I have made the right decision.
