Golden Rule

The Golden Rule - the hidden gem of Ambleside - is tucked away off the main road in the heart of the Lake District. This Grade II listed traditional multi-room pub is popular with residents and visitors, the young and old, walkers, climbers and mountain bikers, artists and writers. With no background music, no noisy games machines, no big screen televisions, and no meals, the Rule is just the place to relax and have a drink and a chat. Enjoy the extensive range of cask beers, draught lagers and ciders, fine wines, malt whiskies, gins, and other spirits in comfortable traditionally furnished rooms, in the secluded suntrap beer garden, or by the open fire. Called in for the first time ever this week despite coming here for twenty years plus. Liked it so much came back every afternoon for a cheeky snifter after a long walk. The Guinness was absolutely top drawer and it had a sizeable crowd in every time we went in too. Friendly and welcoming staff and a warm atmosphere - dog friendly too. Think I have found my new “local” after twenty years!!

It's The Rule: it's been here 300 years, come find out why it is loved by locals ike me and many tourists. Don't expect to get a 3 course meal or listen to lively music because it is not that kind of place! 😉

Cracking traditional Robinsons pub up a back street in Ambleside. Serves the usual robinsons and couple of guests. Nice interior and and outside seating. Everything you'd expect from an old school boozer. Probably best pub in the town. Highly recommended 🍻
