My father was a resident of Coloma Court Care Home from the 1st November 2018. During that time, he was assaulted in the face by another resident that was “acting up”. Despite the resident “acting up”, they seated him beside my father at the dining table and left them unaccompanied. This resulted in facial injuries and a doctor having to examine my father. Another time one of the carers called my father a liar when he said he had pressed his call bell when he fell down, but no-one came to assist him and he managed to get himself up on his own. It was confirmed that he did press the call bell and the carer was disciplined and subsequently made to apologise to my father. All totally unacceptable. The food at the Home is substandard. There is minimal activities for resident stimulation in the dementia unit and they are left sitting around in a circle, with some of the carers being more interested in their phones then interacting with the residents, to the point a sign was put up telling the carers they would be disciplined if found to be on their phones. There are a few members of staff that provided outstanding care, but these were few and far between. Earlier this year, prior to the pandemic, we were looking at other options for my father, in order to remove him from Coloma Court Care Home and their substandard care. The pandemic hit in March and the Home went into lockdown, meaning our options were taken away at that time. My father subsequently passed away in early April, and the events leading up to his death have been formally report to HMT Healthcare, who dismissed our complaint and concerns, and formal complaints have been submitted to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman, plus the Care Quality Commission.
