CHIMNEY SWEEPING

Chimney sweeping of solid fuel / wood-burning stoves and standard open fires starts from £45 low season and £55 high season (for the first hour). An additional of £30 per hour may be applied if problematic. Includes sheeting up area, a full sweep, vacuum and smoke test.Sweeping an inglenook type fire starts from £59.  

CCTV camera inspections start at £19 with a sweep on request. Can be used to inspect damage, identify blockages or if opening up a disused chimney.

BIRD NEST REMOVALS

Nests removed if not in use by birds. It is against the law to intentionally take, damage or destroy a wild bird’s nest while it’s being used or built. So I can only remove a nest if the birds have left the nest.Cost is £59 for the first hour, and then £30 per hour thereafter, Chimney Sweep included.  

MY EQUIPMENT

I use an industrial vacuum cleaner as per industry standards. The SVK30 Sturdy Vac which has two 1,000 watt by-pass motors with a 45 litre capacity stainless steel canister and a Hepa cartridge filter (99.997% efficient on particles to 0.6 microns to BS 3928). This is essential for providing a safe environment whilst sweeping and conforming to current industry standards.

I use Bailey Blue Rods and Tamar brushes for traditional sweeping of chimneys up to 36″ in diameter.The brushes are made with polypropylene bristles densely packed and glued within the spiral to give additional strength and durability.  

Nylon Flexi rods are used for sweeping vitreous enamel, lined and twin wall flue systems. These rods are sufficiently flexible to go round bends, but with enough rigidity to be used in long stacks. The Duct and Flue brushes are designed using a short stem with soft bristle for effective cleaning of flexible liners and metal flues.

Code of Practice:

1. I will provide a reliable, efficient chimney sweeping service, ensuring industry standards are maintained at all times.

2. I will carry out a visual check, as far as reasonably practicable, of your chimney stack and flue terminations prior to the cleaning of such flues and appliances.

3. I will ensure that your chimney or flue has a suitable brush passed through its entire length (cowl permitting) and that all resulting soot is removed.

4. I will ensure your home or premises are kept clean by using suitable equipment, protecting the immediate floor area, sealing up the fire place opening or appliance and use an industrial vacuum.

5. I will take all reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of my clients and their premises.

6. I will inform you in writing if any defect is detected or found.

7. I will offer advice on the importance of regularly having your chimney or flue swept to the requirements of BS EN 15287-1:2007.

8. I will advise on the dangers of Carbon Monoxide poisoning and check that your CO detector is functioning correctly.

9. I will provide free fire safety advice on request and check your smoke detectors are also functioning correctly and ideally positioned.

10. I will carry out a Smoke Test 2 as per industry guidelines, and check that there is adequate ventilation to ensure that your fire will work effectively.

11. I will keep any records of works for a minimum of one year.
