Brookside Primary School

Here at Brookside, we marked the Platinum Jubilee with an art project of painting a huge Union Jack and Jubilee emblem.

It started as a tentative idea two months earlier. Saint Gobain/British Gypsum agreed to fund it and so the mammoth task of stitching together 100m of parachute fabric began, followed by painstakingly drawing out the pattern (turns out that the Union Jack is more complicated than we thought!).

Then the fun bit could start! Using waterproof acrylic paint, every child and member of staff painted the flags. The Union Jack was 14m x 8m and the emblem was 6m in diameter.

We were blessed with blue skies as the school enjoyed a picnic on our school field before gathering around the flags to mark this momentous milestone. Zoe Fellows from Zeddy Productions kindly donated her time to come and film, photograph and put together the footage for the video
