My grandmother lived here for 2 years. 4 months before her death the care home and I noticed a dip in her mental faculties, her memory and a quiet demeanour. The strong smell of urine lead me to believe that a urinary infection was the cause as the same had happened 4 years prior and a course of antibiotics had cleared the infection and she was back to her old, chatty, smiling self. Only this time the management at Broadfield put it down to dementia which would mean a move to the dementia ward and an extra £1k a month on top of the already £2,300 we were already paying. After asking several times for a doctor to conduct a urine test and being constantly fobbed off, management finally got a doctor in and I demanded to be present at the examination. The doctor came, only no urine test was taken, just a series of verbal tests and questions. When I asked the doctor why she had even been brought here if no urine sample was to be taken, she simply said that she knew nothing about a urine sample and that she had been asked by Broadfields management to conduct tests for dementia. I was raging! Broadfield was ultimately letting my Grandmother suffer and ignoring my calls for treatment simply to get an extra £1k a month out of her. 3 weeks later after yet more demands for a urine test to be conducted and my protests of her being moved to the dementia ward without one were ignored, I received a call early Sunday morning telling me she was in Preston hospital. Unresponsive, gasping for breath, she died the next day. Her post-mortem showed she had died from Sepsis brought on by an untreated urinary infection leading to kidney failure. The nurses at Broadfield's are caring and supportive but the management would rather see your loved one's suffer and die if it means getting another couple of grand out of them before they go. I wouldn't leave my worst enemy in this place but if you do find yourself placing your family here, make sure every correspondence is done via writing or else you'll find yourself unable to prove just how callous and non-caring those who run this place really are.

My mum had to attend here after a short illness in April 2020. She was in Broadfield for about 5 weeks in total and the difference in her, from entering and leaving was amazing. It was very clear that she was being very well cared for. As she had never been ill before it was a worry to the family her being in rehabilitation but on regular visiting it was soon clear our mum was being very well cared for by all the staff. A huge thank you to all of them!.
